ALPHARETTA, Ga., June 16, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Optio Software (OTCBB:OPTO) capped a dramatic, one-year turnaround to profitability by earning a place among Georgia's top 50 public companies on this year's Georgia 100 Best of Business list.

Optio ranked No. 41 for overall financial performance among Georgia's public companies for fiscal year 2004, moving up 60 places from No. 101 on the previous year's list. The full ranking of the top 100 companies was reported this week in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"Fiscal 2004 marked a significant turnaround in Optio's financial condition," said Wayne Cape, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Optio Software who founded the company in 1981. "In just one year, we bounced back from a net loss of $4.8 million in fiscal year 2003 to net income of $1.4 million in fiscal 2004."

In fiscal 2005, Optio further boosted net income to $1.7 million on annual revenue of $28.4 million.

"Our improved financial performance -- and our ranking as one of the 50 top-performing public companies in Georgia -- would never have been possible without our employees' strong commitment to the success of our company and their dedication to delivering industry-leading products and services," Cape added.

Optio ranked No. 14 for return on equity and for change in net income in this year's Georgia 100 Best of Business list. These business metrics contributed to the company's 60-point rise from No. 101 in last year's ranking to its No. 41 ranking on the 2005 list.

"We're very proud of the results and recognition we've recently achieved," said Optio Software Chief Financial Officer Caroline Bembry, who at age 34, is one of the youngest CFOs of a Georgia public company. "But we're not standing still. We're continuing to invest in research & development, marketing and sales and bringing to market new innovative products and services that anticipate and meet our customers' needs. We remain firmly committed to achieving revenue growth and improving our financial performance during fiscal 2006."

PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P. calculated overall financial performance of 152 public companies based on the following five factors: annual revenue, year-over-year revenue change, annual percent change in profit margin and return on equity for fiscal 2004, and total return for calendar year 2004.
