Emulex OneConnect UCNAs Provide a Server Interface for Every Application Tier of the Data Center

First Public Demonstration of Emulex's Groundbreaking Universal Converged Network Adapters

LAS VEGAS, May 18, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Interop -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that it will be demonstrating the full range of its new OneConnect(tm) Universal Converged Network Adapter's (UCNA) capabilities this week at Interop in Las Vegas in its booth # 455. Emulex's OneConnect UCNAs provide a groundbreaking, single-chip, high-performance 10Gb/s Ethernet platform for every tier of the data center -- the web tier, application tier and database tier -- drastically simplifying IT infrastructure and management. The Emulex OneConnect UCNA is designed to be universally applicable as a 10Gb/s TCP/IP NIC, 10Gb/s iSCSI HBA or 10Gb/s FCoE CNA. This diverse applicability simplifies server hardware configurations and significantly improves the associated administration and management processes.

The demonstration reveals the universal connectivity capabilities of Emulex's OneConnect UCNA by including:

  -- TCP/IP connectivity in a VMware ESX web server environment
      accessing NAS;
  -- TCP/IP connectivity from the OLTP application tier to the
      back-end Oracle database tier;
  -- iSCSI connectivity in a Windows 2008 environment accessing
      block storage; and
  -- FCoE connectivity in an Oracle database environment accessing
      Fibre Channel storage and native FCoE storage --
  -- All using NetApp(r) unified storage, HP servers and Cisco
      switches.

"NetApp has teamed with Emulex at Interop to demonstrate enterprise network connectivity and network consolidation using lossless 10Gb/s Ethernet technology," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions Marketing at NetApp. "As the first storage vendor to offer native FCoE support, NetApp leads the industry with its unified storage architecture, offering customers storage solutions for high-performance data availability and data management for block and file data access."

"Network convergence is a pivotal technology for reducing data center costs, complexity and resources," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. "And Emulex's OneConnect UCNA provides the foundation for highly agile next-generation data center that reduces CapEx and OpEx, by enabling increased data center consolidation, virtualization and operational efficiency."

Emulex OneConnect UCNAs, powered by Emulex's VEngine(tm) technology, deliver the industry's highest CPU offload efficiency, virtual adapter port count, and quality of service (QoS) bandwidth allocation, enabling greater virtual machine (VM) consolidation with more VMs per CPU, resulting in exceptional savings on both capital and operating expenses. Emulex OneConnect UCNAs deliver wire speed performance in full-duplex mode of operation, regardless of the mix of protocol traffic.

Emulex OneConnect UCNAs are administered using OneCommand(tm), a secure, automated and centralized enterprise management framework that provides a single interface for the deployment, dynamic provisioning, asset management, connectivity management, security and QoS of I/O connectivity that is optimized for virtualized and converged networking environments. OneConnect UCNAs offer investment protection for existing Emulex LightPulse(r) Fibre Channel HBAs and FCoE CNAs, leveraging Emulex's field-proven software stack, drivers and management tools, enabling data center managers to extending their existing investments in infrastructure, management, training and processes.
