SRI Surgical Becomes a Member of EPA's CLIMATE LEADERS Small Business Network

TAMPA, Fla., April 22, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SRI/Surgical Express, Inc. (Nasdaq:STRC), a leading provider of reusable surgical products and reprocessing services supporting the healthcare industry, announced today its membership in the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) CLIMATE LEADERS Small Business Network.

CLIMATE LEADERS is an EPA industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies.  As a Network Member, SRI Surgical committed to take specific actions to reduce its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.  The initial requirement included development of a company-wide base year GHG inventory analysis.   Once the base year data was established, a plan was defined that incorporated a pledge to reduce absolute GHG emissions by a minimum of 5% or better in 5 years or less.  Upon achieving this goal, SRI Surgical must provide the EPA with documentation of the achievement, according to the reporting requirements of this program.

Gerald Woodard, CEO, SRI Surgical, commented, "Being a Network Member of CLIMATE LEADERS is a very important component of SRI's commitment to being an environmentally conscious business, as well as a provider of environmentally friendly products and services.  We take these goals and our commitment to the EPA very seriously.  Earlier this year we became an EPA SmartWay Transport Partner, which will aid us in achieving our goal of reducing direct emissions in our vehicle fleet."

SRI Surgical has a 19 year history of providing environmentally preferable products to the healthcare industry.  Our daily delivery of surgical products, retrieval of the reusable items,  and the reprocessing that occurs in SRI-owned facilities, represents a unique and easy opportunity for hospitals to incorporate a sustainable waste avoidance program in their operating rooms, while continuing to provide the best of care and safety for their patients and staff.
