LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KMNelson Design, LLC's 2012 Pasadena Showcase House of Design space, The Lady's Study, is one of only three rooms selected for coverage this year on LXTV OPEN HOUSE. The episode featuring their showcase room will air on NBC-Ch. 4 on Sunday, August 19th, 2012, at 7:00 AM PST.
KMNelson Design, LLC envisioned the once small and drab home office space of a 1927 Spanish-style retreat known as Casa de las Puertas, or "House of the Doors", as an airy, cosmopolitan retreat for the lady of the house. The Lady's Study became a softly glistening, quietly feminine space that inspired thousands of visitors to the showcase house.
Much like Kristi Nelson's company logo—Inspired Design and Timeless Style—her showcase room revealed how critical space planning, combined with the expert integration of color, texture and fabrics can elevate even the most practical rooms into luxurious, extraordinary spaces.
"You don't have to sacrifice on luxury and style when planning a personal space," says designer Kristi Nelson. "We incorporated precious collected porcelains, photography that we imagined came from a sophisticated woman's world travels, and simple yet elegant window treatments to show how luxury can be expressed in distinctive details."
Nelson and her team expanded the visual and sensory volume of their showcase room using airy colors and reflective wall finishes. Lushly contrasting fabrics of silks, velvets, taffetas, and linens set an indulgent, contemporary tone within the classical envelope of the room's architecture. Fashion-forward prints and patterns such as python print accent pillows and vintage zebra rug punctuated this rich contrast of fabrics. Additional design breakthroughs included substituting a marble table and an exquisite, Italian Renaissance-inspired chair in place of the traditional workspace.
