Ferguson, Braswell & Fraser Grows Intellectual Property Group

John and Diana Cone Join Full-Service Business Law Firm

PLANO, Texas, June 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ferguson, Braswell & Fraser, PC (FBF), a full-service business law firm strategically located in North Texas, continues expanding the intellectual property group with the addition of a respected husband-wife team – John M. Cone and Diana C. Cone. John Cone has more than 30 years of experience in intellectual property law, having practiced in Great Britain and in the United States. Diana Cone brings more than 20 years' trademark experience to the firm, which combines the time she worked in Canada and the U.S.

"Our law firm is growing rapidly, and our clients are requesting an increasing number of patent, trademark and other IP-related legal services," said L. Kyle Ferguson, president and founder of Ferguson, Braswell & Fraser, PC. "The Cones have worked on a number of high profile cases, and are widely recognized for their intellectual property expertise. Together, they are a powerful team that have successfully handled numerous IP cases that span the globe. At FBF, we've built a solid reputation on delivering the highest quality legal counsel for our international base of clients, which means we are very selective about bringing attorneys into the practice. When it comes to intellectual property law, the Cones are well known for their work, and we are pleased to have them join our practice."

John Cone focuses on trademark, copyright and patent enforcement, intellectual property litigation, and a variety of brand strategy and management issues. A distinguished litigator, he has represented clients in a variety of industries including healthcare, food and beverage, software, sports equipment and apparel. Appearing before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, John has handled appeals from District Court decisions and trademark oppositions in addition to ex-parte appeals.

Starting his intellectual property career in England as a chartered patent agent and European patent attorney, John has been active in several trade and professional organizations. He is a past chair of the Dallas Bar Intellectual Property Law Section and is currently a council member of the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section. He is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and currently is on the editorial committee of the association's Trademark Reporter and is a contributing editor to the Intellectual Property Law Strategist. John also acts as a mediator in intellectual property disputes. In addition, John serves as an adjunct professor at the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University where he helps train the next generation of intellectual property attorneys in trademark and unfair competition law.

As a former Canadian Trademark Agent, Diana Cone specializes in trademark clearance, filing, prosecution, and enforcement in the U.S. and abroad. She assists clients in the procurement and protection of trademarks in a wide range of industries, including food and beverage, apparel, retail, hospitality, entertainment, financial services, oil and gas, and high-tech industries. In addition, Diana has participated in numerous committees with INTA. Diana has, in the past, been involved with the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).

Selected as a Texas Super Lawyer six times since 2006, John Cone has also been recognized by Who's Who Legal – Texas, and by International Who's Who Business Lawyers. He received a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. After moving to the United States, John continued his studies at Southern Methodist University, graduating cum laude with a Juris Doctorate.

Qualifying as a Canadian Trademark Agent in 1984, Diana Cone practiced with a prestigious intellectual property law firm in Ottawa for more than ten years. She moved to the United States in 1995, and has focused on trademark procurement and protection matters for the past two decades.

"The Cones are a perfect complement to the FBF legal team and the Intellectual Property Group in particular," said Kelly J. Kubasta, the attorney who leads the Ferguson, Braswell & Fraser Intellectual Property Group. "I've followed the Cone team for a number of years, and am impressed with the quality of legal work they have achieved on behalf of their clients – not to mention the impact they have made in the practice of intellectual property law. FBF has assembled a strong team of legal talent, and the addition of the Cones gives us another level of service which enables us to better serve our clients."
