Distance Education Leader John Marshall Law School Offers Most ABA-Accredited JD Law Courses Online This Summer

CHICAGO, March 14, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Distance education is no longer an emerging trend for law schools. The American Bar Association allows students to take up to 15 credit hours of online law courses toward their J.D. The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, a pioneer in legal distance education, offers more than 50 ABA-accredited law courses to law school students.

"John Marshall continues its commitment to be a leader in the field of online legal education, for our own students here in Chicago and for visiting students who can take courses that they might not otherwise have an opportunity to take at their home school," said Chris Bevard, John Marshall's Assistant Director of Educational Technology. "We're continually looking for ways to incorporate new tools and types of interactivity into our new and existing online courses, so students can be assured that they're getting an experience that they won't get anywhere else."

Law students are taking online courses more than ever. Online courses afford students the flexibility to round out their law school schedules with academic study, while conducting "real-world" work through clinical experience or externships. John Marshall online courses are open to candidates in their second and third years, and visiting students may apply up to six online hours transferable to a J.D. at their home institution, pending their school's approval.

John Marshall offers innovative courses reflective of the school's most distinguished programs, including courses like Computer Crime and First Amendment Issues in the Digital Age.

Select J.D. and LL.M. courses available at John Marshall this summer include:

  • First Amendment Issues in the Digital Age
  • Climate Change Law
  • Computer Crime, Information Warfare & Economic Espionage
  • Constitutional & Military Law
  • Cyberspace Law
  • eDiscovery, Digital Evidence & Computer Forensics

John Marshall is investing in distance education in ways unseen at many other law schools. Many of John Marshall's online courses are produced in an in-house studio and in the field under the direction of media, instructional and resource specialists who, in concert with faculty, oversee both the production quality, as well as the course content.

In addition to its J.D. program, John Marshall provides practicing attorneys the options to earn LL.M. degrees online in employee benefits, estate planning and intellectual property law; and the law school offers M.J. degrees online in employee benefits and intellectual property law.
