Watson Inc. Sponsors PuppyUp Walk to Fund Research in Comparative Oncology

WEST HAVEN, Conn., Sept. 8, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Watson Inc. is proud to announce it will be a Gold Paw Sponsor of the 2016 Shoreline PuppyUp Walk. Watson also has a team participating in the walk with the goal to raise $5,000 for the charity.  Watson would also like to encourage other local business to sponsor this event, and form a team of their own.

The 2016 Shoreline PuppyUp Walk will be held on October 30, from 11 AM to 3 Pm at the Guilford Fairgrounds on Lovers Lane in Guilford, Connecticut.   This year, plans are underway to expand the vendor and craft area, food trucks, and silent auction.  There will also be live music provided by The Elwoods . https://www.facebook.com/THE-ELWOODS-68940511705/

"Cancer is something that has touched nearly every one of us in some way.  Over the years, we've supported both loved ones and employees in their battles against cancer and sadly we have lost too many.  This is really a subject with which everyone can feel a connection.  The PuppyUp Foundation is very unique, in that they fund research in comparative oncology.  This is not a group that is solely funding research in canine cancer, it is much bigger in scope than that.  Funds from the PuppyUp Foundation have funded research in both bone and bladder cancer, which potentially may result in treatment for human trials.  The research model starts with dogs that already have preexisting cancer.  Once treatments prove successful, they can progress to human studies." stated Moira Watson, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Watson.

The PuppyUp Foundation maintains a Scientific Advisory Panel.  The Foundation's scientific objectives are: Broadening our understanding of the links between human and companion-animal cancer, creating a cross-institutional collaborative platform, developing new approaches to research, and funding translational cancer studies that benefit both pets and people.  A listing of PuppyUp Grant Recipients can be found here: http://www.puppyup.org/about-us/puppy-up-foundation-grants/

Watson has sponsored a walking team at the Shoreline PuppyUp Walk for three years, and is an advocate for local businesses to support their communities and give back.

Watson has a comprehensive community service program and is involved in local charities, as well as national charities and service organizations.  To learn more about the community service programs at Watson, please see their News page:  http://www.watson-inc.com/news/category/social-responsibility/
