WESTMOUNT, Quebec, Sept. 01, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dropbike has launched smart bike sharing in Quebec this week, with Bluetooth-enabled bikes available to residents in the City of Westmount.
After downloading the Dropbike app, users can start their ride by scanning the QR code—it unlocks automatically, without any physical codes—and use the bike for $1 an hour.
The first and only smart bike sharing company in Canada, Dropbike has put the bikes at designated Havens (Dropbike parking spots) as of August 31, after an agreement with the City.
The partnership is the company's fifth to date and the first in Quebec.
“With its widespread growth of dockless bikes around the world, I am hoping that Dropbike will be another way to make active transportation a reality in our City,” said Councilor Philip A. Cutler.
Westmount and Dropbike are perfectly aligned in their goals for cycling in the City, said Dropbike CEO Qiming Weng.
"Westmount is small but dense, which makes it a perfect test ground," he said, adding that Dropbike's aim in the area is to "innovate on technology and business models to uphold and grow a tradition of cycling."
