MOPH Announces Name Change for its Auxiliary

Springfield, VA, Sept. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary (MOPHA) are proud to announce a change in the official name from Ladies Auxiliary to Auxiliary, and removing the word “Ladies.”  This change will bring the MOPH in line with other, larger Veteran Service Organizations that have taken similar action.

To bring about this change, the MOPH passed a resolution to amend their National Bylaws at their 85th National Convention in Dallas, Texas to extend MOPH Auxiliary membership eligibility to a parent, male spouse, sibling, or lineal descendent of a living or deceased Purple Heart recipient, effective August 17, 2017.

The purpose of the Auxiliary is to assist MOPH in carrying out its patriotic, fraternal, educational and historical programs. To do this, the Auxiliary participates in a wide range of activities and events that support veterans and other veteran organizations.  During the 2016-2017 fiscal year, over 120 Auxiliary members volunteered as VAVS Representatives and Deputies in the service of Veterans, amounting to over 48,000 hours at VA Medical Centers, Outpatient Clinics and other VA facilities. Those same 120 current volunteers have accumulated over 215,000 hours of voluntary service.  Auxiliary members also volunteer at community hospitals and nursing homes.  This fiscal year they donated 2,784 hours, drove 10,003 miles and made monetary donations of $5,532 to these facilities through their fund raising efforts.

The "Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.," (MOPH) was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all combat wounded veterans and active duty men and women who have received the decoration. Chartered by the Congress, The MOPH is unique among Veteran Service Organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat. For this sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Ladies Auxiliary promote Patriotism, Fraternalism, and the Preservation of America's military history. Most importantly, through veteran service, they provide comfort and assistance to all Veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA, those who are homeless, and those requiring employment assistance.  Programs of the MOPH include VA Volunteer Service, JROTC Leadership Awards, Scholarships, Suicide Awareness, Americanism, Purple Heart Trail and Cities, Welfare, and numerous community service programs, all with the objective of service to Veterans and their families.
