Eastern, western aesthetics converge Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi

Taipei, Taiwan, Feb. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Visitors to the 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival hosted by the Chiayi County government were surprised to find that they could feast eyes on the aesthetics of not only Asian relics but also that of western countries as a result of the incorporation of technological arts with oriental architectures.

The lantern festival, opened Feb. 16 in the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum , will run through March 11.

Domestic and foreign artists from Australia, the United States and Singapore were displaying their contemporary installment art works featuring projection mapping during the event.

Hexogon Solution, an artistic team from Singapore, which set New Guinness World Records title for the Greatest Light Output in A Projected Image at the opening of the 28th Southeast Asian Games, showcased its work “Lanterns of Water Reflection Dance Ensemble”.

The team turned the Zhimei Bridge (in the Southern Branch of the museum) into a giant projection screen in addition to creating a water curtain on the Zhishan Lake. When the light sculpture was projected from the bridge, the pictures of the artistic short films were reflected on the waters of the lake to be in tune with the effect of the water curtain, thus forming a three-level air, land and water light-shadow show and enabling visitors to appreciate the beauty of Chiayi from different angles.

While showcasing works in the Water Art Lantern Zone included Taiwanese artists Ding Jian-zhong (River of Time) ; Tsai Yi-Ting (Sailing with Light and Shadow) ; and Huang Lan-Ya ( Splashing) .

Besides, the alternative light sculpture work “Birds of Lumos” , which was created by the Australian team The Amigos by using the geographic characteristic of the Southern Branch, also added to the colors of Chiayi’s beautiful night.
