Green Thumb Industries (GTI) to Hold Open House, Ribbon Cutting at Medical Marijuana Dispensary RISE Steelton on April 30

VIP Attendees to Include Former NFL Player Eugene Monroe, State Senator Mike Folmer and Borough of Steelton Mayor Maria Romano Marcinko

Chicago and Steelton, Pa., April 26, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Green Thumb Industries (GTI), a national cannabis cultivator and dispensary operator dedicated to providing dignified access to safe and effective cannabis, and KW Ventures Holdings LLC will welcome the community on April 30 to RISE Steelton where people can take a tour of the facility, meet the RISE team and find out more about Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program.  This will be before medicine is stocked at the dispensary to allow the entire community, not just patient card holders, to explore the site. RISE Steelton will be GTI’s second dispensary in Pennsylvania and its 11th dispensary in the nation overall with a total of 20 GTI dispensaries expected to be operating in five states by the end of 2018.  The open house will be from noon to 3:00 pm with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:00 pm.

“Medical marijuana has personally transformed my life and helps to alleviate the chronic pain I experience from my time playing professional football,” says GTI Partner, cannabis advocate and former NFL player Eugene Monroe. “I’m thrilled that GTI is expanding in Pennsylvania to bring additional relief to patients and that we continue to educate the public about the benefits of medical marijuana and its role in curbing our country’s opioid epidemic.”

Research shows that when marijuana is available legally, the rate of prescriptions for opioids decreases. Studies also found that overdose fatalities decrease in regions where marijuana is legal, leading advocates to encourage marijuana policy reforms to be considered as part of an overall comprehensive plan to battle the opioid crisis.

Pennsylvania State Senator Mike Folmer, who co-sponsored SB 3 which became the Medical Marijuana Act, will be in attendance along with Borough Mayor Maria Romano Marcinko and Borough Manager Doug Brown, who notes that Steelton is in the midst of an economic revitalization in which the medical marijuana industry plays a large part.

"Steelton Borough is thrilled by the opening of RISE Steelton as it marks the beginning of a cutting-edge industry established right here in our community,” says Brown. “Since 2015, we have worked to foster a progressive attitude toward new and emerging industries including passing one of the first medical marijuana zoning ordinances in the state. RISE is the beginning of just that: Steelton’s rise at the forefront of a new industry."

“This industry is all about making a difference,” says Jonathan Gusdorff, Managing Partner, KW Ventures Holdings. “Partnering with Doug Brown and the great people of Steelton will have positive impacts on the health of thousands of Pennsylvanians while helping to rebuild the local economy. Our alliance with GTI and the RISE brand brings scalability, defined roadmaps, strong leadership and a track record of success, philanthropy, quality medicines and unparalleled service to the patients of Pennsylvania.”

RISE Steelton is located at 801 S. Front Street in Steelton and will be open to patients starting May 3. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

“This is an amazing time for the patients of Pennsylvania and the state’s medical marijuana program,” says GTI Chief Executive Officer Pete Kadens. “We are excited to open our second dispensary in Pennsylvania and honored to be a part of the strong Steelton community while contributing to its economic resurgence.”
