Military Order of the Purple Heart National Convention in Spokane, WA


Spokane, WA, July 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A (MOPH) and the MOPH Auxiliary (MOPHA) are pleased to announce that their National Conventions will be hosted this year by the Department of Washington at the Red Lion Spokane Hotel by the Park, Spokane, Washington during the week of July 30 – August 3, 2018.

 

This annual event brings together the Commanders and delegates of the Order’s Regions, Departments, Chapters and Units from all States, Puerto Rico and the US Trust Territory of Guam to elect the National Leadership of the Order and Auxiliary for the upcoming year.  Delegates will participate in training sessions, review the business of the past year, approve new governing amendments and organizational bylaw changes, and set an agenda for the coming year.

 

The Hon. Jay Inslee, Governor of the State of Washington, will be the Keynote Speaker for the opening ceremony at 4:00 PM, Monday, July 30, and will address MOPH Patriots, Associate Members, and Auxiliary Members attending the Convention.  On Tuesday morning, Lourdes E. “Alfie” Alvarado-Ramos, Director of Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs will address the Convention.  A Veteran herself, Ms. Alvarado-Ramos retired as a Command Sergeant Major after 22 years on active duty.  On Wednesday, August 1, the Department of Washington will host a charity golf tournament to benefit the Washington State Veterans Home in Spokane.  On Thursday, August 2, a memorial service will be held to honor those Patriots and Auxiliary members who passed during the previous year.  On Friday, August 3, a Purple Heart Evening Gala will pay respects to both the incoming and outgoing officers elected during deliberations of the respective conventions

 

The "Military Order of the Purple Heart of the U.S.A. Inc.," (MOPH) was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all combat wounded veterans and active duty men and women who have received the decoration.  Chartered by the Congress, the MOPH is unique among Veteran Service Organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat or by an act of terrorism.  For their sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal.  With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Auxiliary promote patriotism, fraternalism, and the preservation of America's military history.  Most importantly, through Veteran Service Officers, they provide comfort and assistance to all Veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA.  Programs of the MOPH include VA Volunteer Service, Suicide Awareness, Homeless Veterans Assistance, JROTC Leadership
