Roxen Internet Software Unveils Roxen Platform 2.1 For Mac OS X

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 9, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Roxen Internet Software today announced Roxen Platform 2.1 Beta for Mac OS X Public Beta, a preview version of the first and only Web Content Management system available on Mac OS X. The award-winning Roxen Platform is an enterprise-level server and suite of tools for collaborative building and management of content on dynamic web sites. This opens new possibilities for dynamic graphics serving.

"The long line of innovations in Roxen Platform will change how web sites are built and maintained. Time-to-market will be shortened, design flexibility will be achieved and web site visitors will experience much more visually appealing and dynamic web sites," said Lars Högberg, CEO of Roxen Internet Software. "The powerful server-side image processing capabilities will change the way you think about serving web content."

"Mac OS X's open source foundation, advanced standards-based networking, and superior performance make it an ideal platform for web development and deployment," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We are excited to see Roxen Platform 2.1 support Mac OS X and deliver enterprise-strength performance with the capacity to revolutionize how web sites are built and designed."

Roxen Platform makes your web serving intelligent and blurs the boundary between text and graphics -- it is not only capable of personalizing text information, but also graphics at run-time, based on a visitor's access privileges and profile, and serves custom content tailored to the browser, whether a computer, phone, PDA or other web access device.

Members of the press may receive exclusive demonstrations of this Web technology by appointment at Roxen Internet Software's booth (#307) at MacWorld Expo in San Francisco. See contact information at end of release.

Unique Graphical Capabilities & a New Dimension of Personalization

The innovative technology for intelligent web graphics built into Roxen Platform can handle any image file format and convert it to any other. Roxen Platform automatically builds resizing, antialiasing, layer effects, output format optimizations and other options into the template logic of a web site, allowing total web site automation. Such automation may be used for personalization of graphics. Web designers will be free to concentrate on design, rather than building several versions of their site -- they will simply save their master graphics on the server and Roxen automates the transformation of graphics to navigation bars, buttons, etc.

While it does not replace image-editing programs like Photoshop, it in fact extends their capabilities. For example, a web designer can store a native Photoshop image in the Platform server repository, with all layers intact and text layers still editable. When a web page calls that image, the image is converted automatically on the fly to the correct size image format specifically for the page and the device requesting it -- perhaps a 32-color antialiased GIF file, or another time it would be a small thumbnail, or even sent as a miniature black and white WBMP for a cell phone. Since Roxen Platform also supports font rendering, changing names on buttons or adding another language version of a navigation interface will be done through simply translating or editing text in web browser forms, not in Photoshop.

The fast graphics engine of the Roxen Platform is what makes on-the-fly rendering and manipulations of images possible. Roxen Platform is the tool that web designers will use to create tomorrow's killer web sites.

Seamless Integration with Your Favorite Design Tools

For content authoring, Roxen Platform seamlessly integrates with the favorite tools that web designers and content authors are accustomed to working with. For instance, a web designer can start working on an image in Photoshop by simply pressing edit in Roxen Platform's web- based interface. The image will automatically be downloaded and loaded into Photoshop. After modification, the image is uploaded back to the server through simply pressing save in Photoshop, without using a separate FTP client. The native Photoshop image is transformed into a JPEG by the server before it is sent to a web browser, since the Platform is able to dynamically convert images from one format to another.

This ease-of-use is achieved through the Roxen Application Launcher technology, which can be applied on any type of digital content such as web pages (HTML/XML/WML/TXT), images (e.g. PSD/TIFF), animations (SWF/GIF) or any other designated file format (e.g. DOC/XLS/PPT/PDF/AI).

Multiple Undos of Content & Web Sites

Roxen Platform includes a strong collaborative web site building environment that includes templates, workflow, access control, work areas and versioning. For instance, the built-in version control provides users with multiple undos of content or even of an entire web site. It even offers personal work areas so that team-based web designers no longer need to worry about saving over each other's changes.

As opposed to other Web Content Management vendors that force customers to mix and match pieces and integrate them over a period of months, Roxen Platform is a comprehensive package that includes all of the pieces needed to build and maintain dynamic web sites, and it is powerful enough to power even the world's most popular sites. The Roxen Platform 2.1 Beta on Mac OS X now brings that enterprise-level Web Content Management possibility to the Macintosh.

Availability

In the Roxen booth (#307) at MacWorld in San Francisco, January 9 to 12, 2001, a sneak preview of how dynamic web sites will be built and managed is shown.

The release version of Roxen Platform 2.1 will be available when Apple releases the final version of Mac OS X. This Beta version demonstrated at MacWorld San Francisco will be made available through the Roxen Alpha Tester Program, and to members of the press on request.
