TDC: Accelerated ADSL Rollout in Denmark

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Feb. 20, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- TDC (NYSE:TLD) accelerates the rollout of ADSL broadband service in Denmark and as a result more than 95% of the Danish households will have access opportunity to ADSL within the next 17 months.

"It is only natural that TDC Tele Danmark, as the largest communication provider in Denmark, ensures that the Danes have access to greater speed on the Internet. We see strong customer demand and the political ambitions of a rapid broadband expansion gives us a solid background for the roll-out," says Henning Dyremose, CEO of TDC.

Initially, TDC will ensure that a least 95% of the Danish households will be able to access at a speed of 256 kbit/second. 90% will be able to access at a speed of 512 kbit/second and more than 70% will have access at 2 mbit/second by mid-2002. Concurrently with demand the speed will be increased.

The capital expenditure for the accelerated ADSL rollout is absorbed within the current capital expenditure plans.

"Our two suppliers, Siemens and Ericsson, can deliver the quantity and quality of ADSL equipment. The two-supplier structure ensures avoidance of long installation periods when ADSL is ordered. Furthermore, our organization has already been prepared for this challenge," says Peder O. Andreasen, President in TDC Tele Danmark.

TDC Internet has products available for safety, stability and content for residential and business customers as these services are critical issues for optimized usage of ADSL broadband. TDC Internet has entered into a cooperation with Egmont, the Danish media group, and TV2, the Danish commercial TV station, to develop TV on Demand via Internet.

In short: TDC Tele Danmark will supply the speed on the Internet, and TDC Internet will supply the safety and the content.
