Buxton Lime Industries Ltd. (BLI) in the UK has placed an order with F.L.Smidth A/S for a complete cement production line of a total value of 86m pounds, equivalent to more than one billion Danish kroner. The order is included in this year's sales budget and will be taken to income in step with the delivery of equipment which is scheduled to take place until commissioning by July 2003.

The comprehensive project will be implemented in close cooperation with the building contractor, HMT - Monberg & Thorsen, whose share of the contract value is about fifty per cent. The latter will be responsible for the actual construction of the plant to be located near the town of Buxton, 50 km southeast of Manchester in northwest England.

According to F.L.Smidth President and CEO, Frank Gad, this is the company's first turnkey contract of that magnitude in the European market.

''It's a very large and significant order for us. We're proud of being chosen by Buxton Lime Industries to handle this major project. With the two recently announced contract awards in Senegal and Brazil plus this one in the UK, F.L.Smidth has made an excellent start to year 2001.''

''Meanwhile, we also appreciate the opportunity to resume close relations with HMT Monberg & Thorsen. Back in the mid nineteen seventies we had the pleasure of working with the construction company and are now looking forward to a successful partnership in handling this major turnkey assignment,'' says Frank Gad.

BLI is a new customer to F.L.Smidth and a subsidiary of Tarmac Ltd. that is owned by Anglo-American Finance (UK) plc. BLI oper
ates Europe's largest lime quarry and processing facility whose products include burnt lime and slaked lime. The production process generates large amounts of clay slurry that is recycled into cement production as one of the main raw material components. The new dry-process cement-making facility will replace an old and highly energy-intensive wet-process plant and will at the same time boost production capacity.

The new production line will have a capacity of 2,300 tonnes per day and will feature state-of-the-art F.L.Smidth technology that reduces energy consumption and air emissions to the lowest possible level. The plant will therefore be among the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly in the whole world.

F.L.Smidth is responsible for all mechanical and electrical equipment, the key items being the following: dewatering system, raw mill, storage facilities, coal mill, silos, preheater, kiln, clinker cooler, cement mill, bag filters and control equipment. Its contractual scope also includes supervision of erection and commissioning and training of personnel.

HMT - Monberg & Thorsen is responsible for the actual construction work, civil engineering design, supply and erection of steel structures and fitting of all the mechanical equipment supplied by F.L.Smidth.
