Nokia Advances the Connected Home with New DSL Gateway

Nokia, a leading supplier for wireless and wired broadband infrastructure, today introduced the Nokia MW1324, the latest in a groundbreaking series of DSL connectivity gateways. The MW1324 combines ADSL and three technology interfaces -- HomePNA, 10 base-T Ethernet and wireless LAN (Local Area Network) -- making the connected home a reality with the option of a wireless or wired home network. The gateway will initially be available to service providers in the United States, followed by other countries where HomePNA is used.

"Nokia's MW1324 is an unbeatable choice for a DSL connectivity gateway - allowing consumers to take advantage of their existing in-home wiring to create a truly connected home,' said Mark Slater, Vice President of Sales, Nokia Broadband Systems. "Multiple users within the home can access the same network, peripherals, games and Internet connection simultaneously, without adding new infrastructure or wiring. Nokia's integrated IP connectivity gateways are revolutionizing the home environment.'

HomePNA2.0 provides a 10Mbit/s home Ethernet using existing in-home telephone wiring. The existing wiring means no new wires for a home network are needed. The benefits of home networking with Home PNA includes sharing files, a DSL Internet connection and peripherals such as printers, scanners, servers and fax machines. Users can also connect other electronic equipment such as stereos for use with Internet radio and gaming.

The Nokia MW1324 also provides wireless home networking, thus giving consumers the convenience and choice of two ways to connect the home. This allows people to enjoy mobility within the home through laptop PCs or other portable terminals. A wireless network at home is a powerful, easy to use network that is similar to any other Ethernet-like local area network.

The Nokia MW1324 is the latest addition to its suite of integrated IP connectivity gateway solutions for connected home users. Nokia aims to introduce the latest user-friendly products providing access to entertainment, information and media delivery (video, audio or multimedia) throughout the home, and office. Utilizing the existing broadband infrastructure, Nokia enables current and future multimedia services with a seamless transition from home to office and beyond.
