Emulex Joins IBM Blade.org Industry Consortium

Collaboration Focused on Accelerating the Expansion of Solutions for BladeCenter; Emulex to Aid in Bringing High-Performance SAN Connectivity Solutions to Blade Customers

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 8, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX), the most trusted name in storage networking connectivity, today announced it has joined Blade.org, an industry collaboration focused on accelerating the expansion of solutions for IBM BladeCenter(r). This organization will help drive development and innovation around blade server technology, and will enable Blade.org ecosystem partners, including Emulex, to perform interoperability testing with the newest IBM eServer BladeCenter H offerings. Emulex will work within the Blade.org community to ensure complete compatibility of its newly-announced 4 Gb/s LP1105-BC for the new IBM BladeCenter, along with its existing 2 Gb/s LP1005DC HBAs.

"The valued addition of Emulex's membership to Blade.org underscores our mutual goal to gather the brightest minds in an open development environment to create interoperable technologies that meet the needs of customers in all industries," said Doug Balog, Chairman, Blade.org. "BladeCenter continues to set the industry agenda, and today that agenda is now a collaborative one shared with the ever expanding members of Blade.org."

Emulex's participation in Blade.org is the latest milestone in its longstanding OEM relationship with IBM. In addition to today's 4 Gb/s HBA design win for the new IBM BladeCenter H series, Emulex worked closely with IBM via its BladeCenter Open Specification program last year to deliver the 2 Gb/s LP1005DC HBA to meet strong end user demand for Emulex SAN connectivity within BladeCenter environments. With this announcement, Emulex joins Brocade, Cisco, Citrix Systems, IBM, Intel Corporation, NetApp, Nortel, Novell and VMware in advancing blade technology.

"We have seen a tremendous amount of customers integrate server blades into data center environments and this trend has created strong demand for Emulex-based connectivity solutions from our loyal end user customers who have standardized on Emulex HBAs throughout their IT environments," said Mike Smith, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Emulex. "Our participation in Blade.org enables Emulex to work collaboratively with industry leaders to deliver standardized, interoperable solutions for server blade environments."
