International Association of Skateboard Companies Publishes Guide to Help Make Skateboarding Accessible in Communities Nationwide

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif., July 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Skateboarding is not a crime, or so the saying goes, but in some cities in the U.S. that may not be the case. The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) together with the Tony Hawk Foundation and Skaters for Public Skateparks is offering skateboarders nationwide a simple way to make skateboarding legal in their community: a skatepark! Getting a skatepark built with the qualities to keep young skateboarders attracted is of major concern for advocates. The Public Skatepark Development Guide (SkateparkDevelopmentGuide.org) takes readers through the difficult and sometimes confusing process to building their dream park.

"Skateboarders have always struggled to get skateparks built since the process is usually uncharted territory," says John Bernards, IASC Executive Director. "A well-built skatepark can help get skateboarders off the streets, and the Public Skatepark Development Guide is the most comprehensive and easy to follow guide to getting a great skatepark built."

Written by skateboarder Peter Whitley, with cover art by renowned skateboard artist Andy Jenkins, the 128-page Guide compiles the experience of skatepark advocates and government agencies across the country in a step-by-step guide to getting a well-built skatepark accomplished. The guide's five chapters include information that make the skatepark development process simple for both skatepark advocates and city officials. The guide is now available for FREE at the book's official web site, PublicSkateparkGuide.org.
