New Democrat Coalition Chair and Vice Chair to Ring the NASDAQ Stock Market Opening Bell

ADVISORY, Nov. 1, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) --

 What:
New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Chair, Ellen Tauscher (D-10th-CA) and
Vice Chair, Joseph Crowley (D-7th-NY) will preside over the opening
bell. Other NDC members joining in the open bell will be
Representatives Ron Klein (D-22nd-FL), Tim Mahoney (D-16th-FL),
 and Chris Murphy (D-5th-CT).

Congresswoman Ellen O. Tauscher is currently serving her sixth term representing California's 10th Congressional district, which includes San Francisco's suburbs in Contra Costa, Alameda and Solano Counties.

In Congress she is a leader on defense, homeland security, high-tech, transportation and veterans' issues and is known as one of Congress's leading experts on nuclear nonproliferation. Ellen is currently serving her second term as the Chairman of the House New Democrat Coalition, a sixty-member organization that ranks as the largest centrist caucus in the House of Representatives. The New Democrat Coalition is committed to enacting policies that maintain U.S. competitiveness, meet the challenges posed by globalization in the 21st century, and strengthen our national security. As the U.S. makes the transition into the globalized world the New Dems provide the needed leadership and policies that tap into our strengths and ensure that America maintains its prosperity and global leadership.

First elected in 1998, Congressman Joseph Crowley is currently serving his fifth term in Congress, representing New York's 7th Congressional District of Queens and the Bronx.

Congressman Crowley currently sits on the influential Committee on Ways and Means, and the Foreign Affairs Committee. He is also in his third term as Chief Deputy Whip for the Democratic Caucus, making him the highest-ranking Member among New York Democrats to serve in the leadership. He uses his role at the leadership table and on the Ways and Means committee to fight for the priorities of his district: better jobs, quality healthcare, a competitive New York City and a secure America. Foreign Affairs offers the Congressman a forum to promote US foreign relations, scrutinize Iraq policy, and follow up on the concerns of his diverse constituency with ties to many nations around the world.

About The New Democrat Coalition:

Founded in 1997, The New Democrat Coalition (NDC) provides moderate, pro-growth Members of Congress with the opportunity to advance a common sense policy agenda to move our country in the right direction. New Democrats have built a reputation as the "go-to" group in Congress on the critical issues of economic growth, national security, personal responsibility, and technology development. Hailing from every region of the country, New Democrats are intent on modernizing both the Democratic Party and the country. New Democrats support policies to expand economic growth and ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to benefit from that growth; a fiscally responsible and efficient government; a secure homefront; and a robust foreign policy that includes trade, constructive U.S. leadership throughout the world, and a modern and strong military.

Reorganized under new leadership at the beginning of the 109th Congress, the NDC is a cohesive core of active members committed to these legislative goals. NDC members engage in candid policy discussions during weekly meetings and look forward to bringing new members to these discussions as membership grows. While the NDC seeks to expand its ranks of like-minded members, it is also reaching out to experts for their help in gathering support for critical legislative priorities.
