The Power Situation in Norway as of 6 June 2007

Lysaker, 06 June 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

High inflow and good reservoir level
At present snowmelt contributes to high inflows to the Norwegian hydropower stations. In week 22 the inflow was 7.6 TWh and that corresponds to about three week's consumption in Norway. The accumulated inflow so far in 2007 has been 47 TWh. That is 10 TWh or 21 percent more than normal in the period.

The reservoir content in Norway is 7.2 percentage points above normal. During week 22 the level increased with 6.3 percentage points to 54.4 percent. Compared to the same week last year, there is 7.8 TWh more in the reservoirs. The level in Sweden is now 56.9 percent, after a 5.6 percentage point increase.

The Norwegian hydropower production increased with 3 percent from week 21 to week 22, while the production in the other Nordic countries fell. At the same time the Nordic electricity consumption was unchanged. This added to the Norwegian electricity exports. During week 22 the net export was above 0.4 TWh. That is the highest Norwegian export in a week since week 3, 2006.
