HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - December 28, 2007) - Gas prices reversed course and began heading upwards this week across Texas, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
In Texas, the average rose one cent this week to $2.86 a gallon -- 67 cents higher than last year. The national average is $3.00, a penny more than last week's average. Even in the two Texas cities that posted net declines for the week -- El Paso and San Antonio -- gas prices have risen over the past couple of days.
"This has been another record-setting year for gas prices both statewide and nationwide," said AAA Texas spokesperson Marie Montgomery. "In 2002, the statewide average for the year for regular unleaded gasoline was $1.29. The 2007 average price to date is $2.68 -- an increase of 108 percent."
The lowest average price on this week's survey is El Paso at $2.79 a gallon, which is two cents below last week. The highest average is Texarkana at $2.94 a gallon -- nearly four cents higher than last week.
