CLEVELAND, Jan. 30, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Chart Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq:GTLS) Energy & Chemicals ("Chart E&C") La Crosse, WI, plant was visited by Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle on Friday, January 25. The Governor came to talk about his Grow Wisconsin plan for strengthening the state's economy and to recognize Chart as a model company. He presented Chart E&C President Michael Bright with a check for $150,000 representing state tax credits related to Chart's facility expansion and creation of new jobs.
The 165,000-sq. ft. Chart E&C La Crosse plant designs and manufactures brazed aluminum heat exchangers for global markets. It employs 455 people at the 6.5 acre site.
Gov. Doyle said he wanted to visit Chart because he believes manufacturing will play a strong role in Wisconsin's future. He called Chart a model company for the rest of the state.
"This is really high-end manufacturing," said Doyle. "These are jobs that require a good level of skill, they're good paying jobs, and it's a company that has really invested in a big way in Wisconsin." Doyle said he wants to reward businesses like Chart that support research and development with tax credits. He hopes that will make businesses leaner and more productive.
Chart E&C's custom-engineered brazed aluminum heat exchangers are widely used in natural gas processing, petrochemical plants and power plants to transfer heat from one medium to another. Its heat exchanger proprietary technology can lead to lower capital costs, lower installation costs and lower operating costs over a wide range of applications. The La Crosse, WI plant is one of the world's largest producers of this equipment.
