Girls Matter: Be the Girl You Wanna Be! Conference and Workshop March 8, 2008


DETROIT, Feb. 18, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Franchon Stinger of Fox 2 News will act as host and Mistress of Ceremonies at the annual Girls Matter Conference geared towards girls ages 9-17, their parents and professionals who serve them. The conference and workshop will take place on Saturday, March 8 from 9:00AM to 2:15PM at Schoolcraft College in Livonia at the VisTaTech Center.

This conference is geared towards educating young girls about self-esteem, cliques, aggression, financial goals, career building, leadership skills, goal setting, reality about dating violence and body image. Girls Matter also serves in building happier, healthier and more confident young women, improving and maintaining strong and healthy parent/daughter relationship while working in partnership with community groups, schools and local leaders. The Girls Matter Conferences are collaborative high profile activities that expose girls and parents to workshops, area resources and organizations that support and are available to serve them year round.

Girls Matter is a project of Girls Empowered, an organization that has served over 25,000 girls since its inception. The goal of Girls Empowered and other partnering organizations is to offer year-round programs that benefits girls and their parents.

Gail Perry-Mason, 1st Vice president of Investments, at Oppenheimer & Co. will deliver the keynote address, which will set the stage for the workshops to follow.

Workshops offered on March 8 at Schoolcraft College encompass such titles as "Fashion: It's a girl business!", "How to Create the Life you Want", "Becoming an empowered woman (when the odds are stacked against you)" only to mention a few of the many workshops geared towards girls ages ranging from 9-17. Workshops entitled, "Turning your daughter into a solution seeker" and "How to move in when things go wrong" are only a couple of many informative workshops offered geared towards Parents, Adults, Guardians and anyone that has the responsibility of guiding young adults.
