AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - February 22, 2008) - Record high crude prices helped drive retail gas prices upward this week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The Texas average increased 12 cents in a week to $2.99 a gallon.

"Eight of the eleven Texas regions surveyed posted double-digit increases, with Texarkana spiking 18 cents," said AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. "Crude oil prices surged above $100 a barrel this week on speculation and the possibility of OPEC reducing its output at an upcoming meeting. However, analysts believe an increase in oil inventories would remove some of the edge off of oil prices, helping to slow the increase in retail gas prices."

San Antonio has the lowest average at $2.95 a gallon, up nine cents. The Texarkana area has the highest average on the list at $3.06 a gallon.
