FCIA Showcases Fibre Channel Technology Leadership At Storage Networking World 2008

Industry Leading Companies Collaborate On 8GFC and Fibre Channel Over Ethernet Demonstrations

ORLANDO, Fla., April 7, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- (Storage Networking World) -- The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) today announced that it will exhibit enterprise Fibre Channel solutions in two technology demonstrations for 8GFC (Gigabit Fibre Channel) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). Each demonstration will showcase real-world applications that demand performance and speed. The demonstrations will take place in booth #407 at Storage Networking World (SNW), April 7-11, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida.

"FCIA continues to demonstrate the value of Fibre Channel for today's storage area networks. In particular, advances in 8GFC and FCoE continue to achieve critical milestones addressing customer's stringent requirements," said Skip Jones, chairman of FCIA. "We are excited that SNW attendees will witness, first hand, why Fibre Channel continues to be the trusted SAN technology available in the market today."

"The server and storage connectivity landscape has evolved dramatically, and protecting current investments is a critical aspect of technology planning for IT vendors, solution providers, and customers alike," said Greg Schulz, founder and senior analyst, StorageIO. "The FCIA roadmap for both 8GFC and FCoE solutions addresses the growing needs for higher performance and lower latency networks that maximize existing SAN technology investments while supporting increased IT infrastructure densities."

8GFC: The Need for Speed

Today's leading storage companies have announced the availability of 8GFC products and solutions to meet customers' storage networking demands for their complex and growing data centers. The goals of the 8GFC demonstration are to highlight its speed and performance and to demonstrate its role in increased processing density, faster server I/O buses, and OS virtualization.

This week in Orlando, FCIA will demonstrate 8GFC highlighting solutions from leading member companies and partners, including Amphenol, Brocade, Cisco Systems, Inc., Emulex, Finisar, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, LSI, Molex, NetApp, PMC-Sierra, QLogic, and Third I/O.

FCoE: The Opportunity for Convergence

FCIA will also demonstrate Fibre Channel over a lossless Ethernet Fabric. Today, FCoE solutions are available and allow companies to easily deploy these solutions in their data centers. This demonstration brings together 16 leading companies showing support for the new standard under development: Amphenol, BLADE Network Technologies, Broadcom, Brocade, Cisco Systems, Inc., EMC, Emulex, Finisar, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, LSI, Mellanox, Molex, NetApp, Nuova Systems, and QLogic.

When complete, this new standard promises to have a significant impact on customer data centers, enabling the I/O consolidation of Fibre Channel and Ethernet traffic onto a common Ethernet fabric. At the FCIA booth demonstration, customers will see the latest FCoE technology available and discuss with participating members the various architecture and deployment options that can be implemented today with their FCoE products.

FCIA will also be presenting in the following speaking sessions at SNW:
