Iredell County Issues Compromise Update

Missing Taxpayer Data Found by Law Enforcement Authorities On May 2


STATESVILLE, N.C., May 5, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Iredell County Tax Collector's Office today issued an update to a news release issued Friday morning, May 2, concerning an incident involving unauthorized access to information.

On Friday afternoon, May 2, a courier vehicle that had been reported stolen with a shipment of processed Iredell County tax payments and a smaller shipment of unprocessed items was found by law enforcement authorities in Wingate, N.C.

All tax items, processed and unprocessed, were found in the vehicle. The bags containing the information were intact when found and did not appear to have been opened. Upon examination of the contents, Iredell County officials believe that no information was missing. The courier vehicle had been providing services for First Citizens Bank when it was reported stolen April 22 in Charlotte.

Law enforcement is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the stolen vehicle.
