Steelcase Delivers Sustainable Solutions At NeoCon 2008

New Furniture and Seating Products Could Help Customers Achieve LEED(r) Credit

CHICAGO, June 10, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Steelcase Inc. (NYSE:SCS), a global office environments manufacturer, opened its new showroom yesterday for exhibition at NeoCon 2008, the World's Trade Fair for Interior Design and Facilities Management.

All of the new and existing Steelcase branded furniture and architecture products in the showroom, including walls, storage, furniture and seating, are Cradle to Cradle(sm) certified by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), or will be certified at their launch.

The Cradle to Cradle Product Certification process places major emphasis on the human and environmental health impacts of a material's ingredients, including the prohibition of PVC. It also includes strict criteria for water, energy and materials utilization, as well as social accountability and ethics.

Additionally, products that are Cradle to Cradle certified qualify for a Design and Innovation credit under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED(r) rating system.

The Steelcase showroom demonstrates that it is possible to design an entire work environment comprised entirely of Cradle to Cradle certified furniture products. This is possible because Steelcase has more Cradle to Cradle certified products than any other company, in any industry. It is also because Steelcase approaches its sustainability efforts holistically through a combination of materials chemistry and life cycle assessment and recycling and reuse strategy. Steelcase's designing for the environment platform encompasses new products and products the company has manufactured for decades.

Steelcase's current C2C product portfolio is represented in the showroom with the Think(r), Leap(r), Siento(r), Move(r), and Amia(r) chairs, Answer(r) panels, Universal worksurfaces and storage, Elective Elements(r) storage, Pathways(r) Privacy Walls, and Post and Beam. New products that will receive Cradle to Cradle certification as they begin shipping include new collaborative seating: i2i(tm) and cobi(tm), new furniture for individual workstations: c:scape(tm) and new furniture for collaborative settings: media:scape(tm).

NeoCon 2008 will run from June 9, 2008 through June 11, 2008 at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, Illinois.
