LOS ANGELES, July 11, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Stephen D. Yslas, Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) corporate vice president and secretary and deputy general counsel, received the Professional Achievement award from the Mexican American Bar Foundation at the foundation's 17th Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala on June 14.

From 1980-90, Yslas served on the City of Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners. Yslas was a member of the board of the Constitutional Rights Foundation and the Police Memorial Foundation. He also served as a trustee of Claremont McKenna College. He is a regional board member of the American Heart Association.

Yslas is responsible for the corporate secretary and governance function for Northrop Grumman and serves as deputy general counsel, supervising general legal activities with particular responsibility for international and certain regulatory matters.

He earned a bachelor's degree in public service and a JD from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a member of the Hispanic National, California and Washington, D.C., bar associations.

The Mexican American Bar Foundation is a charitable corporation dedicated to providing financial assistance to men and women of Chicano and Latino heritage who intend to pursue careers in the law. Since 1991, the foundation has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to almost 250 students attending local law schools, including Loyola, Pepperdine, Southwestern, University of California, Los Angeles and University of Southern California.
