Airspan Selected by Netspread for WiMAX Deployment

Brings High-Speed Internet Services to Botswana Government and Businesses

BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - September 18, 2008) - Airspan Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: AIRN), a leading provider of WiMAX-based broadband wireless access networks, announced today that Netspread, one of Botswana's leading ISPs, has chosen Airspan as its WiMAX equipment provider and has begun deployments of MicroMAX base stations and ProST customer premises equipment.

Netspread has operations in eight cities throughout Botswana. After receiving an exclusive license in the 5.4 GHz band, Netspread chose Airspan's flexible and robust MicroMAX and ProST WiMAX solution to provide broadband wireless services to government offices and businesses. The MicroMAX base station harnesses the quality of service normally only supported by larger and more expensive base station options. With the ability to tailor services to meet specific user needs, MicroMAX offers high performance packaged in a small, convenient and easy-to-deploy box.

Mr. B. I. Mukhange, Managing Director of Netspread, commented, "Netspread's choice was simple. We needed a product with a proven track record in the 5.4 GHz frequency band which also provided a feature-rich profile, high capacity and resilience. Airspan's product portfolio was the best match. After successful trials, we began deployments and look forward to continued network expansion. I am excited to partner with Airspan for this project."

Declan Byrne, Chief Marketing Officer of Airspan, added: "Airspan has implemented a well-resourced sales and marketing effort in support of emerging markets such as Botswana. Customers in the developing world have financial capacity and a high demand for robust broadband access to the Internet. The addition of Netspread as a customer and their selection of Airspan's product offering is further validation that we best understand and meet the needs of such carriers. We are committed to offer the most flexible and robust solution for growing markets worldwide."

Botswana, a country approximately the size of Texas, has over 2 million residents and boasts a per Capita GDP exceeding $16,000. Botswana's combination of a young population eager for connectivity and an Internet penetration rate of just 3% makes this a perfect market for wireless broadband.
