Optimal Technologies Helps Drive Global Energy Commitment at the 2008 Clinton Global Initiative

Smart Grid Leader Joins the Joint US-China Cooperation on Clean Energy (JUCCCE) to Bring International Expertise to Global Climate Challenges

RALEIGH, NC--(Marketwire - October 2, 2008) - Optimal Technologies, the leading developer of technologies to optimize power grid systems and advanced building automation platforms, has announced its participation at the 2008 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) held last week in order to pledge its commitment to a global smart grid. Optimal CEO Roland Schoettle took the stage at the high profile event with other industry visionaries to sign a commitment to supporting a joint US-China effort for smart grid development in China. The overall aim of the pact, known as the JUCCCE China Smart Grid Cooperative, is to reduce the impact of electrical generation and transmission on global climate change.

The commitment signing ceremony, held September 25, was led by nongovernmental organization Joint US-China Cooperation on Clean Energy (JUCCCE). Honorary committee members of the NGO include Sir Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Group and James Rogers, chairman and CEO of Duke Energy, among others. Rogers was also present at the signing. Optimal Technologies recently became a platinum member of the organization's JUCCCE China Smart Grid Cooperative.

Optimal Technologies is a leader and innovator in smart grid technology. Earlier this year, the company unveiled its breakthrough energy optimization platform, AEMPFAST, an analytical, planning and operational system that provides unprecedented visibility over an entire utility network to maximize power generation, transmission and distribution.

"We're committed to supporting JUCCCE in order to share our expertise in smart grid technology and aid its efforts to improve the Chinese grid system, which serves over a billion people," said Roland Schoettle, CEO of Optimal Technologies. "Our company has been a leader in smart grid technology since before the term came into vogue, and it's important for industry leaders to work together to ensure that China is empowered to step up its efforts to combat the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change."

The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) is a non-partisan catalyst for action that brings together a community of global leaders from various backgrounds to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges. The JUCCCE China Smart Grid Cooperative is the first formal partnership with these particular US energy companies and a Chinese entity, and JUCCCE has been introducing the smart grid concept to Chinese government bodies since late 2007.
