New U.S. reimbursement code confirms C-RAD Sentinel™ concept
C-RAD AB with its three fully owned subsidiaries develops new and innovative
solutions for the use in advanced radiation therapy. The company is announcing
a new CPT® code in the U.S., which will enable clinics to claim reimbursement
when using the Sentinel™ system for continuous monitoring of the patient during
treatment.
The American Medical Association (AMA) has recently assigned a new Current
Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code, 0197T, for “intrafraction tracking”.
Clinics can begin using this code on January 1, 2009, to file claims for
reimbursement from private as well as governmental health insurance systems
when using the Sentinel™ and its newly released cMotion application for motion
detection.
The C-RAD Sentinel™ is an advanced laser-camera based system that can be used
for multiple applications. In contrast to conventional image guidance systems,
the Sentinel™ does not add any dose to the patient nor does it require any
reference markers to be placed. In addition to the already released
functionalities for patient positioning and motion detection, support for
respiratory gating is currently being developed. A first prototype of the
gating functionality has been demonstrated at the ESTRO and ASTRO events 2008.
This new application will also be covered by the newly assigned reimbursement
code.
