mPhase Showcases Critical Elements of Smart NanoBattery

LITTLE FALLS, N.J., March 25, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- mPhase Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:XDSL) showcased critical elements of the Smart NanoBattery last Thursday at the NanoBusiness Alliance Public Policy Tour Product Showcase in Washington, D.C. in the Russell Senate Office Building. At the Product Showcase, mPhase displayed the concept packaging for the multiple cell battery as well as the silicon based membrane that is the most critical element of the Smart NanoBattery. mPhase will be releasing illustrations of its prototype Smart NanoBattery packaging along with images of its membrane technology next week.

The multiple cell silicon membrane is essentially what gives the Smart NanoBattery its extended shelf life, one of the product's primary competitive advantages over other batteries. The concept design on display contained 12 individual cells on one silicon chip. The membrane's design keeps the electrolyte chemicals separated from the electrodes in each individual cell until the battery is activated for first use. In traditional batteries, the chemicals are combined as soon as the battery is manufactured.

Traditional batteries commonly encounter a condition known as leakage current or self discharge while in storage. By the time a consumer actually uses the battery for the first time, it may no longer have the full power capability that it was meant to have. The Smart NanoBattery was designed as a solution to this problem in critical products, or those used in emergency applications such as defense and healthcare as well as consumer applications. The Smart NanoBattery is designed to provide effective primary and/or reserve backup power, to keep the application devices running.

Said mPhase CEO Ron Durando, "We have made great strides in developing the Smart NanoBattery and I think that these significant developments were recognized by key people in the nanotechnology community at the NanoBusiness Alliance Product Showcase."
