Munich, Germany, August 6, 2009 - The financial figures of SUSS MicroTec AG
(business address: Schleissheimer StraÃe 90, 85748 Garching, Germany;
ISIN: DE0007226706), listed in the Prime Standard of Deutsche Börse AG,
were strained in the second quarter of the current fiscal year by the
ongoing difficult economic situation. Order entry of EUR 27.1 million
remained 36.4 percent below the comparable figure from the previous year
(EUR 42.6 million). However, compared to the first quarter, the SUSS
MicroTec Group managed to post an increase of 35.5 percent. Sales in the
second quarter of 2009 amounted to EUR 27.3 million. This figure slightly
exceeded sales in the first quarter of 2009 (EUR 26.9 million), yet fell
short of the previous year's figure of EUR 34.4 million.
The first half of the year shows a similar picture for the SUSS MicroTec
Group. The Company was forced to deal with declines in both order entry and
sales in the first six months of the year compared to the first half of the
previous year. Order entry between January and June 2009 amounted to EUR
47.1 million after EUR 86.5 million in the previous year. Compared with the
previous half-year, sales of EUR 54.3 million were, as expected, below the
reference value of EUR 69.7 million. The order backlog as of June 30, 2009,
thus, amounted to EUR 62.3 million (June 30, 2008: EUR 92.2 million).
Gross profit in the first half of 2009 fell by EUR 5.7 million compared to
the same period of the previous year to EUR 21.3 million (HY 2008: EUR 27.0
million). The gross profit margin, on the other hand, improved slightly
from 38.8 percent in the previous year to 39.3 percent as the result of an
efficient adjustment of production capacities. As a consequence of the
implemented cost-reduction measures, the Company also managed to limit its
earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) loss to EUR 0.7 million in the
first half-year (HY 2008: EUR 0.5 million). Earnings after taxes (EAT) of
EUR -1.1 million were still approximately EUR 1.4 million below the figure
from the previous year (HY 2008: EUR 0.3 million). Basic earnings per share
(EPS), thus, amount to EUR -0.07 (HY 2008: EUR 0.02).
Cash flow from operating activities increased from EUR 1.0 million in the
previous half-year to EUR 6.4 million. In the first half of 2009, the
Company clearly achieved its goal of generating a positive free cash flow.
Before consideration of available-for-sale securities purchases worth EUR
4.1 million, the free cash flow totaled EUR 4.0 million (HY 2008: EUR -3.9
million). This received a positive boost from the significant reduction of
accounts receivable and the reduction of investing activities. In total,
the SUSS MicroTec Group, thus, had liquid assets and securities of EUR 26.1
million at its disposal. Net liquidity as of June 30, 2009 improved to EUR
13.8 million (June 30, 2008: EUR 3.5 million) compared to EUR 9.4 million
as of the end of the 2008 fiscal year.
