Aeropostale Inc. (NYSE:ARO) is a mall-based, specialty retailer of casual apparel and accessories for young women and men. The Company designs, markets and sells its own Aeropostale(r) brand of merchandise principally targeting 14 to 17 year-old young women and men. ARO also offers casual clothing and accessories through its P.S. brand, which focuses on children between the ages of seven and 12.

In the report, the analyst notes:

"ARO has managed to post strong results despite weak aggregate U.S. retail sales figures. The International Council of Shopping Centers, a retail trade group, reported that retail chain store sales fell 2% over the year for the month of August 2009. However, on September 3, 2009, ARO reported that it had record sales of $214.7 million for the four weeks ended August 29, 2009. The Company reported that it experienced solid increases in both sales and merchandise margins, and attributed its strong performance to the strength of its back to school collection coupled with the successful execution of pre-planned promotions.

"Unlike its competitors, ARO uses a strategy of pre-planned promotions setting prices for items such as T-shirts, hooded sweatshirts and jeans with the purpose of accelerating demand rather than marking down items that are not selling. As a result, ARO's prices continue to represent significant value, even as competitors decrease prices. Additionally, ARO has always operated as a value-based retailer, so it can offer low prices and maintain its brand identity."
