LINTHICUM, Md., Dec. 21, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has announced three leadership appointments in relation to a realignment of several program divisions within the company's Electronic Systems sector. These organizational changes will better leverage similar capabilities, while strengthening the company's focus on customer needs and business growth objectives. The appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2010.

Gloria A. Flach has been appointed vice president and general manager, Targeting Systems Division, with responsibility for combat avionics, global sensor solutions, electro-optical/infrared targeting, and laser systems.

John C. Johnson has been named vice president and general manager, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) Systems Division, with responsibility for space systems; command, control, communications and computers and ISR systems; and surveillance systems activities.

Jeffrey Q. Palombo has been appointed vice president and general manager, Land & Self-Protection Systems Division, with responsibility for weapons and sensors; infrared countermeasures; radio frequency combat and information systems; and communication, intelligence and networking solutions.

Flach and Johnson will be located at the company's Electronic Systems sector headquarters in Linthicum, while Palombo will be based at the company's Rolling Meadows, Ill., facility.

Flach most recently served as vice president and general manager of Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics for the Electronic Systems sector. A 28-year veteran of the company, she has achieved many significant career milestones including serving as vice president and chief information officer for the sector. She began her career in the engineering organization and later became responsible for all software engineering execution across the sector's diverse program base.

Flach earned a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in business administration from Loyola University Maryland. She has also completed the executive marketing program at University of California, Los Angeles and the general manager's program at Harvard University.

Johnson had most recently served as vice president and general manager of the company's Aerospace Systems Division. He joined Northrop Grumman in 1989 following a distinguished 20-year career with the U.S. Air Force where he retired as a colonel and commander of flight operations for the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing. He has held a number of executive positions in the business development, systems development and technology, and aerospace organizations.

He earned a bachelor's degree from New Mexico Highlands University and a master's degree in systems management from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also completed the general manager's program at Harvard University and the executive marketing program at University of California, Los Angeles.

Palombo had most recently served as vice president and general manager of the company's Land Forces Division. Prior to that, he was vice president of infrared countermeasures. He joined the company in 2003 as site manager and president of Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems in Buffalo, N.Y. Before joining Northrop Grumman, he held a variety of technical and management positions in the aerospace and defense industry.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing from Adelphi University. In addition, he has completed Hofstra University's management program in government contracts administration.
