Finnair short film wins award in Germany

A short film, currently being shown on Finnair flights, about the fortress of
Suomenlinna has been placed second in the WorldMediaFestival competition in
Hamburg, Germany. The short film Sveaborg-Viapori-Suomenlinna won the
Intermedia Globe Silver Award in the Inflight Programmes category.

The film follows and documents over a full year the events and environment of
the sea fortress, which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It also includes
dramatised sequences on the historical background of the fortress.

"To my mind it's excellent that, through programmes like this, we can offer our
passengers a quick visit to Finland and neighbouring countries," says Finnair's
Cabin Safety Manager Sami Sievä.

The Suomenlinna film has been shown on Finnair flights during the spring, and
screenings will continue throughout the summer. Also during the summer, the
finishing touches will be made to the next programme, which tells about the
Lofoten Islands and offers a magnificent voyage of the imagination into the
landscape of the island group.

The award was for the 17th in a series of programmes produced for Finnair by
Suomen Visiotalo Oy which have been shown on aircraft since 1991.
