Notice of Preparation of Draft Environmental Impact Report Issued for Proposed LAX Interim Taxiways Safety Improvement Project

LOS ANGELES, June 9, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) today announced the Notice of Preparation (NOP) of a Draft Environmental Impact Report for its proposed Interim Taxiways Safety Improved Project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The proposed project would enhance safety on the North Airfield while maintaining airfield operational efficiency. It would enable all Runway 6L-24R arrivals to cross adjacent Runway 6R-24L farther down the runway, in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration procedures, rather than using existing Taxiways Y and Z (which are located in the middle third of Runway 6R-24L).

The proposed project would also create high-speed exits on the runway that would enable pilots to see better when crossing it.

The report is available for public viewing online at www.ourlax.org under the tab "Interim Taxiways Safety Improvement Project." A copy of the NOP is also posted in the office of the Los Angeles City Clerk.

For more information or to request a copy of the NOP, call Los Angeles World Airports Facilities Planning Division at (424) 646-5180. Responses to the NOP must be received no later than July 12, 2010.

Responses should be sent to Herb Glasgow, Chief of Airport Planning, via e-mail to ITSIP@lawa.org, or by regular mail to City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles World Airports, 1 World Way, Room 218, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
