Trelleborg Automotive continues its substantial investments in China-
establishes research and development centre in Shanghai

Trelleborg's business area Trelleborg Automotive will establish a new
R&D centre in Shanghai. The new facility is due to open at the end of
the year and will offer cutting-edge noise and vibration damping brake
solutions for light vehicles, an area where Trelleborg has a global
leading position.

 - China is one of our most important single geographical markets and we
are continuing to strengthen our manufacturing and development, says
Roger Johansson, Business Area Manager Trelleborg Automotive. The market
for light vehicles is one of the growing industries in China and it is
important that we are located where our customers are established.

 - We have had sales and production in China for a number of years. We
see steadily increasing possibilities for our innovative braking shims,
and there is a strong demand for local support within research and
development, says Roger Johansson. Each model of a vehicle requires a
bespoke solution, and the R&D facility was a natural progression,
enabling us to deliver on-the-spot testing and consultation for our
China-based customers.

The state-of-the-art R&D centre is set to include high-technological
equipment which will enable the controlled testing of brake and engine
noise. Using on-site test chambers, Trelleborg will be able to simulate
the brake noise experienced in driving conditions anywhere across the
globe, at temperatures ranging from -30° to +45°C. The new R&D centre
will also include one laser scanner which will enable the measurement of
vibration levels of various engine components.

Trelleborg has five wholly owned production units in China, one of
those produces and develops anti-vibration components for light
vehicles. The Trelleborg Group today has approximately 1,100 employees
in China.
