Brief Security Exercise Scheduled Tonight at Los Angeles International Airport

LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Airport Operations and Airport Police staff, in conjunction with airline and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel, will conduct a brief incident-response drill at 10:30 p.m. tonight to test the effectiveness of inter-agency communications and the collective establishment of an on-scene, unified command among multiple agencies. The drill will take place adjacent to the TSA passenger security screening area at Terminal 1 (not publicly accessible by media).

Even though the exercise will take place during non-peak hours, public awareness measures will be implemented to minimize impacts to travelers, including Airport Police officers restricting access to the exercise site and posted signs informing the public of the drill. This exercise does not involve loud noises or other elements that might alarm passengers processing through federal security screening.

In order to maintain effective emergency response capabilities and high levels of inter-agency cooperation and communication, airport officials are scheduling similar short drill exercises during the next six months.
