Vital Images CEO Elected to National Board

Medical Industry Technology Alliance Names Michael Carrel to Its Board

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 16, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vital Images, Inc. (Nasdaq:VTAL), a leading provider of advanced visualization and analysis software, announced Michael Carrel, president and CEO, is joining the Medical Industry Technology Alliance (MITA) board to serve on the Board of Directors.

MITA, a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), is the leading organization and collective voice of medical imaging equipment manufacturers, innovators, and product developers, representing companies whose sales comprise more than 90 percent of the global market for medical imaging technology. MITA provides leadership for the medical imaging and radiation therapy industries on legislative and regulatory issues at the state, federal and international levels. It serves as an advocate for fair legislative and regulatory proposals that encourage innovation, investment in research and development, and the continued global competitiveness of the medical imaging and radiation therapy industries.

Through NEMA, MITA is also a leading standards-development organization for medical imaging and radiation therapy equipment. These standards are voluntary guidelines that establish commonly accepted methods of design, production, testing and communication for imaging and cancer treatment products.

"Mike Carrel brings a wealth of expertise that will be invaluable to MITA as we continue to provide leadership for the imaging industry," said David Fisher, Executive Director of MITA. "Given the issues facing the industry today, we look forward to Mike's contributions, especially in the areas of increasing the awareness and understanding of the value of medical imaging as we strive to interact with appropriate government agencies on reimbursement and technology assessment policies."
