U.S. Bank Creates Reporting Solution for Small Business Customers Based on Information Builders' WebFOCUS BI Technology

High-Performance Customer-Facing BI App Designed to Scale to One Million Users

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - November 5, 2010) -  Information Builders, an independent leader in business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that U.S. Bank has rolled out a WebFOCUS application called ScoreBoard that enables hundreds of thousands of small-business clients to generate reports about their credit cards, merchant processing accounts and other types of electronic payment vehicles through a secure Web-based dashboard. U.S. Bank selected WebFOCUS to create this customer-facing BI application because of its inherently scalable architecture, which can support large numbers of users with minimal hardware investments and IT support.

"Information Builders created a reporting infrastructure that can scale to support one million users," said Robert Kaufman, senior vice president in the Payments Solutions division at U.S. Bank. "ScoreBoard allows small business owners and authorized officers to monitor their company's credit card spending over various time periods, as well as to compare aggregate credit card transactions to industry trends."

With multiple services for small business customers -- including checking accounts, credit cards, equipment leasing, payroll, insurance, financing and many others -- ScoreBoard is an important addition to U.S. Bank's growing list of online banking services. It features WebFOCUS dashboards that display spending trends on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, with the data broken down by market segment. Small business customers are rallying to the BI system because it helps them manage their budgets and control costs. For example, a customer might see that over the last two quarters, 20 percent of their spending went towards travel and entertainment purchases. Customers can also compare their spending habits and trends against similar businesses. A restaurant in California, for example, could see how its electronic revenue compared to other restaurants in California. U.S. Bank forged a partnership with Visa to obtain data across its nationwide network so it can provide these aggregate reports to small business clients.

WebFOCUS has an inherently scalable architecture that can be efficiently distributed across clustered servers. WebFOCUS queries are dynamically partitioned, with complex number-crunching and aggregation operations optimized across the back-end database and reporting servers. Thanks to its multi-threaded design, a single processor can serve multiple, simultaneous user requests, maximizing system performance. Built-in load-balancing and automatic failover ensures high availability and performance. U.S. Bank's reporting servers are currently configured to process 300 simultaneous report requests. Since these are short-running requests, typically one or two seconds each, the system can theoretically support about 700,000 sessions per hour.

"Web-based BI applications such as ScoreBoard improve the online experience for clients, driving revenue and building long-term value for the bank," said Gerry Cohen, president and CEO at Information Builders. "Encouraging the use of Internet channels helps U.S. Bank to reduce operating costs and compete more effectively in an increasingly competitive industry."
