Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Passing of Peter Donaldson

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 10, 2011) - It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Peter Donaldson, a great Canadian actor who leaves behind a significant body of work on the stage and screen.

Mr. Donaldson performed on many of Canada's most reputable stages, from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, where he began his career and to which he returned on many occasions, to the Shaw Festival, London's Grand Theatre, and Soulpepper Theatre. He appeared in such films as The Sweet Hereafter and is well known to television audiences as a result of his frequent appearances on Emily of New Moon and Road to Avonlea and other Canadian series.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Peter Donaldson.
