Opengear Expands Auto-Response Capabilities Across All Product Lines

Opengear Products Now Proactively Heal Network Infrastructure

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Oct 5, 2011) - Opengear (www.opengear.com), provider of next generation console server and remote management solutions, today announced that is has expanded its Automated Remote Management and Support (ARMS) functionality across all of its product lines.

Opengear first launched automated response functionality at Interop Las Vegas earlier this year with the Opengear Smart ACM5000 and Smart IM4200. Based on the positive reaction from customers, Opengear is announcing today that it has expanded its automated response functionalities to all of its product lines from $129 device servers up to $3,500 enterprise cellular 3G console servers.

Opengear's auto-response capabilities offer system administrators remote, secure and instant automated remediation. Opengear offers a programmable and customizable "rule book" with schedules of corrective actions that can be taken in response to defined events. For example, in the event of ping failure on a managed device, alerts can be sent, devices can be reset or custom scripts run. In another example, if a critical UPS battery level is reached a more graceful shutdown can be initiated before the system shuts down.

"System administrators want complete control of everything in the data center and in remote sites, no matter where they are and even if the network is down," said Bob Waldie, founder and chairman of Opengear. "Over the past few months we learned how much system administrators also want to create customized rules and policies for automatic remediation of network infrastructure issues. System administrators are using Opengear to proactively heal their network infrastructure and reduce downtime."

Samples of common network management challenges resolved by Opengear's auto response functionality include:

  • Minimize remote traffic levels and costs by using event initiated or remotely initiated out-of band connections
  • Reduce time to repair with event triggered log retrievals and simplified messaging
  • Minimize down time with on-site preventative maintenance and health monitoring
  • Improve infrastructure efficiency with Smart M2M auto response and elevation
  • Reduce the incidence and cost of false alarms
  • Ensure quality of service by escalating alert notifications for protracted outages
  • Simplify remote control with SMS and web page initiated custom local actions

Opengear is at Interop New York, October 3 through 7 at booth #655. Opengear is also helping manage all the equipment at InteropNet, the high-speed network that serves all the exhibitors, conference rooms and attendees.
