C-RAD AB: Gating solution for Varian users

Press release 2011-10-07

C-RAD is pleased to announce a state of the art respiratory gating solution for Varian users.

The C-RAD group, including four wholly owned subsidiaries, is active in the Radiotherapy field since 2007, offering leading edge products for imaging, patient positioning, motion management and gating.

C-RAD is releasing a unique linac gating solution that
is now validated for use with Varian’s Clinac®  iX linear accelerators and Trilogy® systems.

Over the last year C-RAD has developed and validated the new C-RAD Catalyst 3D optical tracking system with Varian’s linear accelerator system using Varian’s Motion Management Interface (MMI). With the release of this Catalyst gating solution C-RAD is able to offer Varian users a technologically significant leap forward thanks to digital light projection, deformable models, highly advanced non-rigid algorithms, and direct 3D surface capture and processing in real time. Like all C-RAD systems, the Catalyst is designed to integrate seamlessly into the clinical workflow and strengthen the treatment chain, while providing the clinician with unrivaled user-friendliness.

To help insure optimal treatment outcomes, the Catalyst simultaneously monitors multiple surface areas on the thoracic and abdominal walls, thereby assuring the patient's breathing pattern remains the same from 4D CT capture through every gated treatment fraction. The Catalyst acquires and monitors intra-fraction patient motion in parallel over the entire ROI, providing isocentric positioning QA from start to finish.

The Catalyst system platform is based on real time measurement technology with on-line projection. The approach of introducing augmented reality functionality offers the radiation therapy market a new and improved method to detect and correct for posture errors in the set up procedure of the patient.

The highly advanced non-rigid algorithms developed and used in the Catalyst system brings optical surface tracking concepts to a new level and C-RAD to the leading manufacturer in this field.

Erik Hedlund, CEO of C-RAD AB, says: "C-RAD is proud to offer the new Catalyst solution that is the next step in 3D optical tracking systems with gating functionality. Being able to offer this state of the art technology to the worldwide customers of the leading linear accelerator vendor Varian Medical Systems is a milestone for our firm. We appreciate the support given to us by Varian from the start of this project, and look forward to providing this solution to it's customer base worldwide".
