U.S. Navy Awards AtHoc Multi-Year Enterprise Sustainment Contract for the CNIC Wide Area Alert Notification Requirements

Multi-Year Contract Supports 375,000 Personnel at 40 Locations Worldwide and Illustrates Navy's Commitment to Ensure Safety of Personnel Through Investments in Network-Centric, Life Safety and Security Technologies Across Enterprise

SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 2, 2011) - AtHoc, Inc., the pioneer and leader in network-centric emergency mass notification systems, today announced that the U.S. Navy has awarded a multi-year enterprise-wide sustainment agreement for AtHoc IWSAlerts™ software in support of the Wide Area Alert Notification (WAAN) requirements. With implementation of AtHoc's technology, the Navy is on track to meet the Office of the Secretary of Defense emergency mass notification enterprise-wide requirements, per the Ft. Hood after-action report recommendations, and Department of Defense (DoD) Instruction 6055.17 for installation emergency management.

The WAAN requirements are part of the Navy's Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) Ashore Program led by Commander of Navy Installation Command (CNIC). The implementation of WAAN, based on AtHoc's technology, is led by NAVFAC and SPAWAR Pacific. A major component of the Navy's WAAN, powered by AtHoc, enables reaching targeted personnel within minutes during emergencies using an integrated and multi-channel delivery approach. The AtHoc solution capabilities include but are not limited to: computer desktop notification system integrated automated telephony notification system, email and SMS text message delivery to mobile phones. Future spirals of WAAN may include integration with the installation's outdoor sirens (Giant Voice), indoor public address systems, digital signage displays and smartphone apps, creating a fully unified, enterprise-wide emergency mass alerting capability.

Key factors in the selection and expansion of the AtHoc technology include:

  • This private cloud-based approach will fulfill the Navy's mission for emergency notification while assuring enterprise-wide consistent capability, reducing infrastructure and maintenance costs
  • Joint Base Support, with proven cross-domain reach between navy.mil and other .mil domains
  • Support for both regional and local emergency management procedures
  • Authority To Operate (ATO) for the Navy/Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) and OneNet NIPRNet environments

"The Navy's WAAN system was the military's first nationwide network-centric mass notification deployment in 2007," said Guy Miasnik, President and CEO of AtHoc. "The Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Ft. Hood after-action report specifically cited the Navy's AtHoc-based system as an example of an effective and modern mass notification capability. This demonstrates the Navy's exemplary thought leadership in the adoption of a highly cost-effective, best-in-class and proven emergency mass notification solution."

The WAAN capability also supports the Navy's post-emergency personnel accountability mandates via its bi-directional emergency mass communication -- alert recipients' responses can be tracked and automatically accounted. The Navy's accountability initiative extends to a separate contract with AtHoc to integrate its Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (PAAS) with the WAAN system. This combined solution will yield a robust, centralized accountability system for optimal efficiency and security, providing rapid authenticated awareness for personnel safety.

AtHoc's comprehensive integrated technology is widely deployed across DoD and federal agencies, enabling organizational interoperability among 2 million federal and military personnel at thousands of locations worldwide. AtHoc IWSAlerts unifies all networked communication channels and devices, ensuring rapid, pervasive notification for force protection and personnel accountability during crisis situations.
