Media Advisory: AARDA and MADD Canada Reach Out to Students About the Dangers of Impaired Driving

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 28, 2012) - Damages, MADD Canada's School Assembly Program to educate students about the dangers of impaired driving, is visiting Blessed John XXIII School in Calgary this week.

MADD Canada is pleased to invite media to attend the show - one of 16 presentations being sponsored by the Alberta Automotive Recyclers and Dismantlers Association (AARDA) - as it is screened for students in Grades 7 - 9.

Ms. Dubyk and Mr. Hope, as well as members of the school staff and student body, will be available to speak with media.

Damages takes students into the courtroom to meet Jesse, a young man whose bright future and plans for university are put on hold as he goes on trial on charges of impaired driving causing death. The program transitions from Jesse's fictional story to the real world impact of impaired driving through powerful and emotional testimonials from actual victims of this violent crime.

MADD Canada's School Assembly Program tackles the problem of impaired driving among the age group which is most at risk. Road crashes are the number one cause of death among young people in Canada and alcohol is a factor in about 50% of those crashes. Shown on a giant screen with a powerful sound system, the program presents students with solid information and best practices to help them understand the issue of alcohol and/or drug impaired driving. This year, MADD Canada is pleased to offer the first fully separate French production of the show, Dommages. Nation-wide, Damages and Dommages will be delivered to more than 1 million students in Grades 7 through 12 this school year.
