Torstar Now Canada's Most-Read English-Language Daily Newspaper Group Based on Latest NADbank Survey

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 2, 2012) - Torstar is now Canada's most-read English-language daily newspaper group, based on the data included in the latest newspaper readership study released March 29, 2012 by the Newspaper Audience Databank (NADbank).

Based on the NADbank survey, which measures full-year 2011 readership, the average net weekday print readership of daily newspapers owned by Torstar Corporation reached 2.57 million last year. This is the highest average number of net weekday print readers of any English-language daily newspaper group in Canada based on the papers included in the NADbank survey.

The Torstar daily newspapers included in the survey were the Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily newspaper, The Hamilton Spectator, the Waterloo Region Record, the Guelph Mercury and the majority-owned Metro free daily newspapers in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Halifax. The 2011 NADbank survey did not include the Metro papers in Winnipeg and London, which were launched last April.

"We are extremely pleased with these results," said Lorenzo DeMarchi, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Torstar Corporation. "Torstar's Canadian media operation is committed to serving its readers and advertisers through quality journalism and innovation. These results are clear recognition of that commitment."

NADbank reported that the Quebecor Media English-language daily newspapers included in the 2011 NADbank survey had an average net weekday print readership of 2.54 million while the Postmedia Network daily newspapers included in the survey had an average of 2.38 million net weekday print readers.
