|FAT| Arts & Fashion Week 2012 Announces "fashionSCAPES" April 24-28


TORONTO, April 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- |FAT| Arts & Fashion Week launches its 7th year from April 24th to April 28th in Toronto. For five fabulous days, |FAT| explores the art of fashion via runway shows, art exhibits, photography, fashion films and live performances.

The lFATl attitude comes to life again this year at our new festival location - a former industrial warehouse located at 213 Sterling Road - Toronto's new up-and-coming arts & design district. Models will stomp their heels on an 80 foot-long runway featuring 52 innovative fashion collections from top designers within Canada and abroad.

|FAT| is the first festival of its kind to present fashion through a broad range of disciplines including - design, film, photography, arts and performance - all under one roof. The festival puts Canada on the fashion world stage as an innovative force to be reckoned with.

lFATl has an International reputation for presenting and discovering cool new talent: for instance Wesley Badanjak, Heidi Ackerman, Martin Lim and Jasper Garvida. Now in its 7th year |FAT| has presented over 1,000 designers and artists since it first launched in 2005.

2012 THEMATIC LANDSCAPE

The |FAT| 2012 theme fashionSCAPES mirrors the concept of landscapes: unique, seasonal and ever changing. Each night a different sub-theme will be explored around the ideas of land, city, body and future.

April 24 - LANDscapes explores global landscapes and physical environments

April 25 - CITYscapes visits metropolises and man-made environments; streets, structures and cities

April 26 - BODYscapes investigate the body as a field for expressing identity, sexuality and gender

April 27 - FUTUREscapes looks at new materials, technology, media and innovative processes

April 28 - FATmarket is chance for the public to purchase clothing hot off the runway from |FAT| designers

April 24-27: 52 RUNWAY SHOWS
From designers across Canada & around The World including work by Canadian designers from Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa and Calgary as well as international designers from The Netherlands, Germany, Ukraine, Mexico, the Philippines and the USA

April 24-27: |FAT| FOCUS GERMANY Presented by the Goethe-Institut
Fashion & art from Germany's hottest designers & image-makers: curated in collaboration with world-renowned Designer Scouts. Focus Germany will present an onsite photography exhibit featuring 7 collaborative projects by German designers and fashion photographers; 2 runway shows by Berlin based fashion designers; 3 fashion films presenting the unique landscape of Berlin and a conceptual mixed media installation. Focus Germany is part of the Goethe-Institut's focus on Culture+Economy, City+Climate and the celebration "50 Years Goethe-Institut Canada"

April 24-27: THE DRESSING ROOM PROJECT
A virtual & on-site multimedia art experience. 12 site-specific artist spaces present work ranging from live performances, broadcasts and video projections to interactive photo booths and more 


April 24-27: FILMS ON FASHION
International filmmakers create iconic imagery through fashion & moving image. The program includes 10+ films from Paris, London, New York, Berlin, Istanbul, Florence, Wroclaw, Baar and Montreal

April 24-27: PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO EXHIBITION

Four thematic nights of rotating imagery by a selection of Canadian and international media artists and photographers
