Inc. Magazine takes Top Honor in General Excellence at the National Magazine Awards

'Award honors the leading magazine serving the nation's small to mid-sized companies.'

New York, NY, May 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Inc. Magazine was recognized for Editorial Excellence in the Active and Special Interest Category at the Annual National Magazine Awards Presentation Thursday night in New York.  The American Society of Magazine Editors sponsors the National Magazine Awards in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. The first award was presented in 1966.  The 2012 National Magazine Award finalists include 52 titles in 20 categories.

Eric Schurenberg, Editor-in-Chief, attributes the award to Inc.'s incredibly talented and dedicated staff and the immense contribution of International Editor Jane Berentson on whose watch the winning issues were published.  Eric comments "I'm delighted to see my team receive the recognition they so richly deserve."   Joe Mansueto, Chairman of Mansueto Ventures, Inc. and owner of Inc.Magazine expressed his delight and commented "I'm not the least bit surprised. The struggles and triumphs of entrepreneurship create an incredibly rich supply of stories, and no one tells them better than the talented team at Inc. I'm very proud of them."

The award honored Inc.'s February, November and December 2011/January 2012 issues.

The February issue featured a cover story about how great entrepreneurs think, written by editor-at-large Leigh Buchanan, and a feature about entrepreneurship in socialist Norway, written by senior writer Max Chafkin.

The November issue featured a cover story by contributor Amy Barrett about an absentee boss and the thriving company he left behind.  This was aligned with an entrepreneur's guide to social media, by reporters JJ McCorvey and Issie Lapowsky.

The December 2011/January 2012 issue featured a cover story about Evernote, Inc.'s company of the year, by contributor David H. Freeman and a feature story written by senior writer Max Chafkin on Korean-American entrepreneurs returning to Korea to make their fortunes.

Bob LaPointe, President of Inc.Magazine points out that "This award, coupled with the extraordinary growth in reach that Inc. has experienced over the past three years, serves as well-deserved validation of our editorial team's deep understanding, passion, and devotion for serving entrepreneurs and the small to mid-sized companies they run."
