SALT LAKE CITY, June 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pet bloggers have been emerging rapidly as a source of information for and influence on pet owners, and they have garnered the attention of marketers who are exhibiting at a record level at the preeminent pet blogger conference, BlogPaws, taking place this week in Salt Lake City, UT. A new study conducted by Trone Brand EnergyTM, being revealed at the start of the third annual BlogPaws event, gives insights into the composition of the pet blogging world and how marketers can work with them to best impact their target consumers.

More information about the research can be found at TroneBrandEnergy.com/pets.

The study, which was fielded from the BlogPaws' Online Pet Blogger community, shows that nearly 20 percent of pet bloggers are considered highly influential, with monthly readerships of at least 10,000 readers. Among those most influential bloggers, three-quarters of them have been blogging for at least three years, suggesting building their audiences has been a steady, organic process. With those years of experience among the top pet bloggers also comes attention from marketers. Half of this group maintains a relationship with six or more pet care brands, showing just how recognized their influence has become.

How to garner the attention and respect of a pet blogger depends on many factors, according to the research. Keeping relevant content in the forefront is among the ways in which brands can engage a blogger. The study shows there are a variety of pet-related topics that are of interest to bloggers, with pet behavior, nutrition, health and welfare topping the list.

"We've done a lot of work to understand this thriving community," said Amanda LeGaux, Account Executive at Trone Brand Energy and presenter at BlogPaws. "We did a simultaneous study of blog-reading pet owners as well, so we know just how much pet owners rely on their favorite bloggers, and we've identified the gap between what bloggers want to write and what pet owners want to read. And, thanks to this thorough research, now we can guide marketers in their efforts to establish relationships with this important online demographic."

Trone Brand Energy's presentation also shows bloggers what they can do to attract readers and increase their influence, as well as what their readers expect regarding content, format and post frequency. The study also reveals just how deep relationships between pet care brands and the pet blogging community can be.
